Rudraprayag, July 2: A comprehensive disaster mock drill was conducted on Thursday in Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand, aimed at testing the preparedness of the disaster management system and the coordination among various departments. The drill took place at five designated locations, simulating relief and rescue operations to evaluate quick response, rescue efficiency, and inter-departmental coordination during a disaster scenario.
District Magistrate Vishal Mishra stated in an interview that the mock drill was organized under the guidance of the state disaster management department. He noted that all teams reached the designated locations on time and successfully executed the operations as per the drill’s requirements. During the exercise, stranded individuals were safely rescued, and the entire process was monitored at the chief ministerial level. Mishra added that teams are still completing necessary tasks in the area post-drill.
The District Magistrate also shared important directives regarding the safety and respectful treatment of pilgrims during the Kedarnath Yatra. He mentioned that several complaints had been received about handlers of horses and mules not treating pilgrims appropriately. In response, the district administration has mandated that all horse and mule owners and handlers must register with the district council and undergo police verification.
Mishra clarified that any owner or handler found operating without registration would face fines and legal action. He emphasized that with a large number of devotees arriving from across the country and abroad at the Kedarnath shrine, ensuring respectful and dignified treatment is a top priority for the administration. He warned that any form of misconduct or violation of rules towards pilgrims will not be tolerated by the district administration or police under any circumstances.
