Congress Leaders Pay Tribute to Rajiv Gandhi on His Birth Anniversary

New Delhi, August 20: On the occasion of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi‘s birth anniversary, senior Congress leaders gathered at Veer Bhoomi in Delhi to pay their respects. The party reflected on Gandhi’s vision and contributions, highlighting his tenure as a significant milestone for the nation.

Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge laid floral tributes at Veer Bhoomi. They were joined by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who also honored his father on this special day.

During the commemoration, Congress leaders recalled Rajiv Gandhi’s visionary decisions. Former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel remarked, “Rajiv Gandhi’s political tenure was brief, but his contributions were monumental. He took several revolutionary steps, including the introduction of Panchayati Raj, the IT revolution, and lowering the voting age to 18. If Rajiv were here today, we would be leading in artificial intelligence.”

Senior leader Mani Shankar Aiyar urged party workers not to treat the event as mere formality. He stated, “I request those present to read what Rajiv Ji said, understand his vision for the country’s journey, and reflect on what he taught us about the nation’s character. Until we keep these lessons in mind, it will be challenging to confront PM Modi.”

Congress leader Udit Raj also paid tribute to Rajiv Gandhi, noting, “Today, we remember Rajiv Gandhi and his ideals. Thousands have gathered here in his memory. His tenure saw significant initiatives like the computerization of the country and the establishment of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas. Rajiv Gandhi did much for the marginalized sections of society and worked for their upliftment.”

On Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary, Congress leader Pawan Khera remarked, “This day serves as a source of inspiration for us. Whenever we come here, we return with renewed energy. If Rajiv were alive today, the history of this country would have changed, its future would have transformed, and its fate would have been different. It is unfortunate that he left us at such a young age.”

Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay described Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary as a blessing. He said, “He envisioned a modern India and empowered youth by granting them the right to vote at 18. He also worked to strengthen women’s rights, evident in the progress of rural women today. Just when he was fully matured and capable of leading the nation, nature took him away from us. His sacrifice and absence can never be compensated.”

Devendra Yadav, President of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, stated that Rajiv Gandhi introduced the computer revolution, Panchayati Raj laws, and voting rights at 18. He affirmed, “We are committed to following the path shown by Rajiv Gandhi and working together for the unity, integrity, and progress of the nation.”
