Remembering Rajiv Gandhi: A Tribute by Mallikarjun Kharge on Sadbhavana Day

New Delhi, August 20: On the occasion of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s birthday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge paid tribute to him. Kharge emphasized that a true homage to Rajiv Gandhi would be to strengthen India’s spirit of empathy, harmony, and reconciliation. He also highlighted the importance of promoting intellectual freedom, innovation, and the aspirations of the youth.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Kharge stated, “Today, on Sadbhavana Day, we remember Rajiv Gandhi. He was a visionary leader who inspired millions and helped prepare India for the possibilities of the 21st century.”

Kharge further remarked, “His legacy lives on in the revolutionary changes he advocated and in his unwavering faith in the power of India’s youth, technological progress, and new ideas. Perhaps the best tribute to Rajiv Gandhi is to further strengthen India’s eternal spirit of empathy, harmony, and reconciliation, while also promoting intellectual freedom, innovation, and the aspirations of our youth. On his birthday, we respectfully salute him and remember his unparalleled contributions to the nation.”

Congress leader Ashok Gehlot wrote, “Today, on the birthday of Rajiv Gandhi, the architect of modern and progressive India and the pioneer of the information revolution, I paid heartfelt tribute at ‘Veer Bhoomi’. His visionary contributions to laying the foundation for a self-reliant India in the 21st century, empowering youth, and strengthening Panchayati Raj will always inspire us to serve the nation.”

Sachin Pilot noted, “Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi believed in adopting modern technology and new ideas for India’s construction and progress. It was crucial to provide adequate arrangements and opportunities for youth participation and talent development. His foresight redefined modernization in the country. Key decisions like the expansion of the computer and telecommunications revolution played a significant role in elevating the nation. On his birthday, I pay my heartfelt respects.”

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed, “Himachal Pradesh was very close to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s heart. His natural affinity for the valleys and people here is still felt in memories. His trust in youth, vision for technology, and faith in democratic values were hallmarks of his thoughts. His dream of a modern, self-confident India was linked to providing opportunities for the new generation. His memory deepens my resolve for public service every day.”

Congress MP Kumari Selja wrote, “On the birthday of Bharat Ratna former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, I pay my respects. With visionary thinking, he laid a strong foundation for modern India, empowered youth in democracy, and provided new direction for the country through the information and technology revolution. His invaluable contributions to nation-building and his commitment to a progressive India will always inspire us.”

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath posted, “On the birthday of the architect of a technological India, the pioneer of the communication revolution, and visionary former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, I pay heartfelt homage. Rajiv was a young Prime Minister who provided education, communication, and leadership opportunities to rural India’s talents. The computer and telecommunications revolution, along with the constitutional framework of Panchayati Raj and Navodaya Vidyalayas, are examples of his legacy. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with him.”
