New Delhi, August 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and several other leaders have paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary.
Prime Minister Modi took to the social media platform ‘X’ on Thursday morning, stating, “Tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary.”
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also shared his respects on ‘X’, writing, “Heartfelt homage to former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary.”
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his tribute on ‘X’, saying, “I pay my respects to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary. He played a significant role in India’s development journey.”
Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan posted, “I respectfully pay homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary.”
Sharad Pawar, President of the Nationalist Congress Party, also honored Rajiv Gandhi, stating, “Heartfelt greetings to former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary, who worked tirelessly for visionary leadership and the foundation of a new India.”
Prithviraj Patel, Executive President of the Nationalist Congress Party, wrote, “Tribute to former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary. We remember his contributions to India’s technological journey and his service to the nation.”
It is noteworthy that Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary is celebrated annually on August 20 as ‘Sadbhavana Diwas’ in India.
Rajiv Gandhi became the youngest Prime Minister of India at the age of 40 and was among the youngest leaders globally to head a government. Born on August 20, 1944, in Bombay (Mumbai), he ascended to the presidency of the Congress party and then to the position of Prime Minister following the tragic assassination of his mother, Indira Gandhi, on October 31, 1984.
He served as Prime Minister from 1984 to 1989. During his tenure, he promoted technological modernization, telecommunications expansion, and administrative reforms. His efforts to increase computer usage and develop India’s telecom sector are often credited with laying the groundwork for the country’s technological transformation.
