Giridih, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : Sudivya Kumar Sonu, a senior leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and cabinet minister in the Jharkhand government, passed away late Saturday night in Giridih. Family sources report that Sonu was preparing for bed when he suddenly fell ill, complaining of chest pain.
His family rushed him to Mercy Hospital in Giridih, but despite medical efforts, he could not be saved. Doctors confirmed that he suffered a heart attack. Following the news of his passing, senior officials from the district administration and police promptly arrived at the hospital. His death has sent shockwaves through both political and social circles in Jharkhand.
Sonu represented the Giridih constituency in the state assembly and was first elected as a legislator in 2019. He was re-elected in the 2024 assembly elections and subsequently appointed as a minister. In his cabinet role, he was responsible for key departments including tourism, art and culture, sports and youth affairs, urban development and housing, as well as higher and technical education.
A close ally of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Sonu was also the central general secretary of the JMM. Known for his vocal presence in public forums, he actively addressed issues related to the government and his departments. Recently, he played a crucial role in facilitating dialogue between the government and students during protests in the state. His untimely death is a significant blow to Jharkhand’s political landscape.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha expressed deep sorrow over his passing on their official social media platform, stating, “The fragility of life… Those who were with us yesterday are now only memories. The uncertainty of life has left us in deep grief and sorrow. The entire JMM family is stunned and heartbroken by the untimely demise of our dedicated comrade and minister Sudivya Kumar. His departure is an irreplaceable loss for the party, the government, and the state of Jharkhand. His struggles, service, and contributions will always be remembered.”
The JMM family extended heartfelt tributes, praying for the departed soul’s peace and offering strength to the grieving family and comrades during this difficult time.
