Tehran, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic explosion occurred in a fuel tanker in western Iran on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of 11 individuals and injuring seven others. The blast ignited several nearby vehicles, causing further chaos.
According to the Iranian news agency IRIB, the incident took place on an intercity road between Sanandaj County in Kurdistan province and Hamadan County. Babak Hodai, head of the emergency medical services at Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences, provided this information.
Hodai reported that rescue teams have transported the injured to a hospital in Sanandaj. Efforts to manage the aftermath of the explosion are ongoing at the site.
This incident follows a previous explosion involving an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz in July. Reports indicated that the tanker struck a naval mine, leading to the explosion after it deviated from the designated route.
The semi-official Mehr News Agency stated that the tanker had entered an area outside the safe maritime route established by Iran, despite prior warnings. The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial energy passage, linking the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, facilitating significant exports of oil and liquefied natural gas to international markets.
Meanwhile, tensions have escalated between Washington and Tehran. The U.S. military reported that after ballistic missiles were fired by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at two U.S. Navy warships, American forces retaliated by attacking three Iranian tankers carrying crude oil.
According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), an aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer successfully defended against multiple Iranian attacks, with no American personnel injured in the incident. CENTCOM stated, “On September 5, our forces targeted three Iranian vessels transporting crude oil after the IRGC launched ballistic missiles at U.S. Navy warships patrolling the area.”
