Lucknow, August 11: The Congress party has sharply responded to Akash Anand, the national coordinator of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and nephew of party leader Mayawati, after he referred to Rahul Gandhi as ‘Uncle’ and made comments regarding the Constitution.
Senior Congress leader and spokesperson Anshu Awasthi criticized Anand, stating that merely being younger does not make someone a leader for youth and students. True leadership is demonstrated through speaking on youth issues and fighting for their rights.
On Tuesday, Awasthi took to social media platform X, asserting that if Anand considers himself a leader for youth and students, he should address pressing issues such as paper leaks, unemployment, and the alleged police brutality against students and youth.
He accused Anand of remaining silent on these critical matters. Awasthi emphasized that the BSP has long claimed to uphold the ideals of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Kanshiram, and therefore, disrespectful comments regarding the Constitution should not be tolerated.
He urged Anand to refrain from insulting the Constitution of India. Awasthi stated that Rahul Gandhi has stood up for the Constitution, especially when the BJP faced accusations of attempting to alter it.
Awasthi questioned Anand, asking if he is making similar claims as those accusing the BJP of changing the Constitution, what then distinguishes the BSP from the BJP? While political opposition is valid, respecting the Constitution and its values is the responsibility of all political parties.
He reiterated that youth politics is not solely based on age but on raising their concerns and fighting for their rights. Awasthi pointed out that merely criticizing Rahul Gandhi and Congress, while ignoring the real issues facing youth, does not establish true youth leadership.
It is noteworthy that Akash Anand recently targeted Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, referring to both as ‘Uncle’ and claiming they are no longer leaders of the youth.
