Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, August 11: Abhijit Dipke, founder of the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP), has expressed his opposition to the alleged police baton charge on peaceful student protesters in Jharkhand. He reached out to student leader Devendra Nath Mahto, who is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, via video call to check on his condition and extend his support for the ongoing movement.
Devendra Nath Mahto has been on a peaceful hunger strike for the past nine days. During this period, he claims to have been injured due to police action. His health deteriorated, leading to his hospitalization, where he is reportedly in serious condition and receiving oxygen support.
From the hospital, Mahto updated Dipke about the events during the protest. He reported experiencing severe chest pain following the alleged baton charge, which subsequently worsened his health. Dipke criticized the police action, asserting that the use of force against peacefully protesting students is an infringement on democratic rights.
Dipke stated, “The police action against students peacefully demanding their rights is unacceptable. The voices of students and youth should not be suppressed through violence, whether at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi or on the streets of Jharkhand.”
He emphasized, “Devendra is risking his life for the student community. The CJP stands firmly with him in his just struggle. We salute his courage, determination, and fight.”
The CJP has called for an immediate and impartial investigation into the police actions in Jharkhand. The organization insists that if a baton charge occurred, accountability must be established. They also demand an inquiry into the role of officials who ordered the action, with consequences for those found guilty.
Dipke remarked that government pressure or police force cannot silence the voices of youth and students indefinitely. He affirmed that the right to peaceful protest and to voice demands is a fundamental aspect of a democratic society.
The CJP reiterated its commitment to supporting the democratic and peaceful movements of students. The organization has urged the relevant authorities to engage in dialogue with the protesters and ensure a fair investigation into the entire incident.
