FIR Filed Against J&K Lawmaker and Party Spokesperson for Alleged Assault on Security Officer

Srinagar, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Jammu and Kashmir police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a lawmaker from the ruling National Conference (NC) and an additional party spokesperson. The allegations involve an assault on a private security officer (PSO) assigned to protect them.

The complaint was filed by a police officer from the security branch of Jammu and Kashmir police. In his written statement, the officer claimed that a heated argument with Altaf Ahmad Kaloo, the legislator from Pahalgam, and Umesh Bhatt, the NC spokesperson, escalated into physical violence. The officer stated he was on duty at the time and sustained injuries during the incident.

Following the complaint, police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Assaulting a police officer on duty or obstructing government work using criminal force is considered a serious offense under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 2023. Convictions can lead to imprisonment, fines, or both for those found guilty of such actions.

If it is proven that a government employee was physically harmed during their duty, harsher penalties may apply. More severe charges could be brought if the assault involved serious injury or the use of dangerous weapons.

The police are currently investigating the FIR against the NC legislator and spokesperson. They will examine the allegations and the roles of those named in the complaint. Should sufficient evidence be gathered, the police may file a chargesheet in court, leading to further legal proceedings as per the law.
