New Delhi, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Maulana Sajid Rashidi, president of the All India Imam Association, recently expressed his views on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) during a discussion that also highlighted his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He praised Captain Smita Machhar for her conversation with the Prime Minister, describing Modi as a compassionate individual. “I was moved by their discussion,” Rashidi said, emphasizing the importance of respect and acknowledgment for Machhar, suggesting she deserves the Ashoka Chakra for her efforts.
Rashidi also addressed the recent protests in Mumbai led by the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), criticizing some activists for politicizing issues. He stated that when the administration denied permission for a protest, they should have respected that decision rather than seeking media attention through arrests. “Issues should be raised at the right time and place for more effective discourse,” he added.
Reflecting on the UCC bill approved in Gujarat, Rashidi pointed to the implementation in Uttarakhand, questioning its effectiveness. “Has it created jobs? Has inflation decreased? The focus seems to be on generating communal tensions rather than addressing real issues,” he argued. He expressed concern over attempts to infringe upon the rights granted to Muslims by the Constitution, asserting that they will adhere to the Quran and Sharia, regardless of any UCC implementation nationwide.
In response to comments from Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s international president Alok Kumar regarding Garba events, Rashidi challenged those who criticize Muslims by comparing them to countries like Saudi Arabia or Pakistan. He invited Kumar to share the details of any Garba event he plans to attend, indicating that such discussions often aim to create divisions rather than foster inclusivity.
