
Nicosia, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : India and Cyprus are advancing their strategic partnership through high-level diplomatic engagement. On October 1, 2026, Indian High Commissioner Manish participated in the celebrations marking Cyprus’ 66th Independence Day and met with President Nicos Christodoulides.
The Indian High Commission in Nicosia shared details of the event on social media platform X, highlighting the significance of the occasion. High Commissioner Manish conveyed greetings and best wishes from Indian President Droupadi Murmu during the ceremony held at the Presidential Palace. Earlier in the day, he also attended a formal military parade.
The High Commissioner greeted First Lady Philippa Karsera Christodoulides, Foreign Minister Dr. Constantinos Kombos, and Maria Hadjisolomou Kombos. This occasion underscored the warmth of India-Cyprus friendship as both nations work to enhance their strategic partnership.
On Thursday, the High Commissioner met with Defence Attaché Group Captain Parminder C. Antil. Their discussions focused on the India-Cyprus defense cooperation roadmap for 2026-2031 and the advancement of bilateral defense collaboration programs. The High Commissioner emphasized the need for ongoing engagement and tangible outcomes, exploring opportunities for exchanges, training, and maritime cooperation, which have been identified as key areas for development by both nations’ leaders.
Additionally, the High Commissioner met with Cyprus’ Minister of Transport, Communications, and Works, AV Tsolaki, on Monday to discuss various avenues for cooperation between the two countries. The High Commission noted that the talks centered on enhancing connectivity, transport, and maritime collaboration, contributing to the growing momentum in bilateral relations.
