Chief Justice Chandrachud Lays Foundation for Judicial Academy in Amaravati

Amaravati, March 1: Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud, laid the foundation stone for the Andhra Pradesh Judicial Academy on Sunday. He also inaugurated the residential complex for High Court judges in Amaravati.

During the event, he performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Andhra Pradesh Judges’ Guest House as well.

The Judicial Academy, with an estimated cost of ₹165 crores, will provide academic, residential, and training facilities for 120 trainee judges per batch. The proposed complex will span approximately 2.05 lakh square feet and include an academic block, hostel facilities, indoor sports amenities, and other infrastructure.

Additionally, Chief Justice Chandrachud inaugurated the High Court Judges’ Residential Complex in Pichukalaplem. This modern facility, built at a cost of ₹210 crores over 33.20 acres, will house 36 High Court judges. To accommodate future needs, land has been allocated for 13 additional bungalows.

Each residence is designed in a G+1 model, covering an area of 7,841 square feet. The homes are tailored to meet judges’ requirements, featuring office rooms, waiting halls, and other amenities. The Chief Justice also laid the foundation for the Andhra Pradesh Judges’ Guest House in Amaravati.

This facility will be constructed over an area of 6,300 square feet, with an estimated cost of ₹69.40 crores. The guest house will consist of a ground floor and three additional floors. According to officials, 20% of the land will be allocated for construction, while the remaining 80% will be reserved for greenery.

Located just 1.2 kilometers from the Andhra Pradesh High Court building, the guest house is easily accessible via 25-meter and 50-meter wide roads.

After the foundation stone ceremony, the Chief Justice reviewed the development works in Amaravati and the construction of the judges’ guest house through a video presentation.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, Justice Dheeraj Singh Thakur, Supreme Court Justices J.K. Maheshwari, P.S. Narasimha, Prashant Kumar Mishra, S.V.N. Bhatti, and Joymalya Bagchi also attended the program.

Earlier, the Chief Justice laid the foundation for the District Courts Complex in Tirupati. He emphasized that the bar and bench are not adversaries but two hands of the same institution. A strong bar fosters robust advocacy, which in turn challenges judges to think deeper, reason more carefully, and write more clearly.

He noted that the quality of assistance from the bar reflects in the judges’ work. The better the arguments presented, the higher the quality of judgments, which builds public trust in the rule of law.
