
Srinagar, June 17: The Meteorological Department’s Srinagar center has issued continuous weather updates, warning of unstable weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir over the next few hours and days.
According to the latest alert, areas including Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Ganderbal, and parts of Budgam, along with the Sonamarg–Baltal–Holy Cave (Amarnath) route and the Pahalgam–Holy Cave route, are likely to experience rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
In these regions, there is a possibility of heavy rain, storms, hail, lightning, and strong winds over the next 2 to 3 hours.
The Meteorological Department has advised residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms and lightning, and to keep away from loose structures, electric poles, wires, and old trees. Additionally, it has recommended halting all shikara and boat operations in water bodies, including Dal Lake, for the next three hours.
The department has also indicated that heavy rain with hail in some areas could lead to flash floods and landslides. Therefore, residents are urged to remain cautious and alert.
Earlier, the department had predicted heavy rain and strong winds for several areas, including Baramulla, Budgam, Poonch, Rajouri, South Kashmir, Ganderbal, the Sonamarg–Baltal–Amarnath route, Pahalgam, Ramban, Kishtwar, Reasi, Kathua, and Jammu, over the next five hours.
Furthermore, warnings of rain with strong winds were issued for parts of Srinagar, Baramulla, Budgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, and Ganderbal.
According to the weather department, from June 16-17, Jammu and Kashmir will generally be cloudy, with light rain, thunder, and strong winds expected in several locations. Between June 18-22, the weather will remain unstable with intermittent light rain, thunder, hail, and strong winds.
The Meteorological Department has urged the public to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.
