
Evian, June 17: During the G7 summit in Evian, France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on June 16. The leaders discussed ways to enhance India-UK relations.
PM Modi shared on social media platform ‘X’, “I had a very productive meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Evian. Over the past year, India and the UK have made remarkable progress in their relationship. The recent trade agreement has opened new avenues for economic cooperation. Today’s discussions focused on further advancing this partnership.”
He added, “We explored collaboration in innovation, artificial intelligence, skill development, sports, and other sectors. We also discussed increasing investments that benefit the people of both nations.”
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the leaders reviewed the rapid progress in India-UK relations following their respective visits last year. They welcomed advancements in various areas under the ‘Vision 2035’ framework, including trade and economic development, defense and security, climate change, green energy, technology and innovation, education, and people-to-people connections.
Both leaders expressed hope for the swift implementation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. They also celebrated the growing collaboration in education, noting that the University of Liverpool has taken steps to establish a campus in Bengaluru, while York University and the University of Bristol are preparing to open campuses in Mumbai.
PM Modi thanked PM Starmer for the UK’s active participation in the AI Impact Summit held in Delhi this year. He also welcomed progress under the Technology Security Initiative, which includes the recent launch of the India-UK Critical Minerals Global Supply Chain Observatory.
The leaders exchanged views on several regional and global issues, including West Asia and Ukraine. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
During the G7 summit, PM Modi also met with various other global leaders. He stated, “The dialogue with world leaders continues at the G7 summit in Evian.” He shared glimpses of his meetings with US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, and other leaders.
