Mumbai, September 28 (Daily Kiran) : Waris Pathan, the national spokesperson for the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has criticized the central government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the ongoing dispute over the historic Ujjain mosque. Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Pathan accused the government of initiating what he termed “Operation Muslim” and “Operation Mosque” against the Muslim community.
The mosque in question is approximately 600 years old, and Pathan firmly believes that any attempts to remove it should be halted. He questioned whether demolishing mosques and madrasas would truly contribute to India’s development, stating, “The country will progress through love, not hate.”
Pathan also addressed the issues surrounding road widening and the removal of encroachments, arguing that if the government is serious about road improvements, it should target illegal structures in various areas, not solely focus on mosques and madrasas.
He mentioned that discussions had taken place between the mosque’s imam and the chief qazi, who had requested time to approach the court regarding the matter. Pathan noted that it was suggested that if any part of the mosque was deemed an illegal encroachment, it could be voluntarily removed, yet he raised concerns about the police’s actions in the situation.
Emphasizing that the government should not take action against a mosque that has stood for 600 years, Pathan asserted, “India cannot develop by oppressing Muslims.”
In a separate statement, Pathan also questioned the electoral process, asserting that the Constitution grants every citizen the right to protest peacefully in a Gandhian manner. He urged people to express their views democratically.
Furthermore, Pathan accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of overseeing electoral discrepancies, claiming that public sentiment suggests irregularities in voting led to current issues. He referenced a report indicating that two election commissioners working with Kumar had filed 14 objections in ten months, which he alleged were ignored, resulting in one-sided decisions.
