New Delhi, September 28 (Daily Kiran) : India and Fiji have taken significant steps to bolster their bilateral defense partnership. A meeting of the India-Fiji Joint Working Group (JWG) held in New Delhi on September 28 served as a platform for reviewing current defense cooperation and exploring new avenues for collaboration.
India’s Ministry of Defense shared details of the meeting on the social media platform X, noting that it was co-chaired by Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary of International Cooperation, and Mason Smith, Permanent Secretary for Defense and Veteran Affairs of Fiji. During the discussions, both sides evaluated ongoing defense initiatives and deliberated on ways to further strengthen their partnership.
In addition to the discussions with Fiji, India also engaged with Poland on the same day to enhance institutional defense and defense industrial cooperation. The meeting, co-chaired by Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary of Defense Production, and Magdalena Sobkowicz-Zarneka, Poland’s State Secretary and Deputy Minister, focused on implementing the 2024-2028 Joint Work Plan.
The Ministry of Defense emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating that the India-Poland Joint Working Group meeting aimed to reinforce defense ties and facilitate the execution of the joint work plan.
Earlier, on September 4, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski in Warsaw to review the progress of the 2024-2028 Joint Work Plan. Following the meeting, Jaishankar highlighted their discussions on various sectors, including trade, investment, space, digital technology, AI, semiconductors, defense, education, shipping, mining, and energy.
Jaishankar expressed appreciation for Poland’s support in deepening India-EU cooperation, emphasizing that the implementation of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) would further enhance bilateral relations. The talks also addressed global challenges such as supply chain resilience and food, fuel, and fertilizer security.
During his visit to Poland, Jaishankar also met with President Karol Nawrocki, focusing on the positive trajectory of the India-Poland strategic partnership and exchanging views on issues such as the Ukraine conflict and developments in the Middle East.
