BJPs Ravi Shankar Prasad Questions Oppositions Intent Amid Protests in Parliament

New Delhi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad raised concerns on October 6 in New Delhi regarding the opposition’s actions during protests led by Rahul Gandhi in Parliament. He questioned whether the opposition parties are attempting to create chaos in the country.

In an interview, Prasad asked, “What does Rahul Gandhi and the opposition alliance want? Do they desire disorder?” He criticized the opposition for surrounding a sensitive area in Delhi and accused them of suggesting that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar is under the influence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. “This is shameful, and I condemn it,” he stated.

Prasad also condemned Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s alleged demand to annul elections and hold fresh ones using ballot papers. He asserted that the opposition’s true aim is to undermine fair elections, claiming they cannot win without resorting to booth capturing and intimidation tactics. “They want to prevent Dalits and the poor from voting,” he added, accusing Congress of winning elections through such means in states like Bihar and West Bengal.

He further questioned the legitimacy of voters, citing that millions of individuals on the rolls are deceased or registered in multiple locations, which is illegal. Prasad emphasized that the Supreme Court had clarified in May that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has the authority to conduct a “Special Intensive Revision” of voter lists.

“Stop insulting the voters of this country,” he urged the opposition, stating that their claims of collusion with the ECI are unfounded. He criticized Rahul Gandhi for repeatedly targeting constitutional and national institutions, claiming that he has dishonored the nation abroad.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi alleged that nearly 300 MPs were prevented from meeting with the Election Commission. He claimed that they were blocked from accessing the office to speak with CEC Gyanesh Kumar and his two associates. Gandhi accused Modi, Shah, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, and Kumar of destroying the country’s democracy.

Prasad’s remarks highlight the ongoing tensions between the ruling party and the opposition as they navigate the complex landscape of Indian politics.
