
Ranchi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Members of the Jharkhand Youth Congress gathered in Ranchi on Tuesday to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protest took place outside the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, where demonstrators accused the central government and the Election Commission of succumbing to political pressure regarding electoral processes and voter rights.
During the demonstration, protesters defaced signs outside the office with black paint. Tensions flared as clashes erupted between the demonstrators and police. The protest was led by Kumar Gaurav, the president of the Jharkhand Youth Congress. A large crowd rallied outside the Election Commission’s office, chanting slogans against the electoral body. They asserted that the ultimate power in a democracy lies with the people’s vote, emphasizing that the Election Commission must ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
Youth Congress leaders alleged that there is increasing political pressure on democratic institutions. They highlighted numerous questions raised by opposition parties and the general public regarding decisions and processes related to elections. The organization called on the Election Commission to guarantee transparency in electoral procedures and to clarify issues concerning voters’ rights.
Kumar Gaurav stated that the Youth Congress would continue to voice its concerns democratically to protect the rights of voters. He warned that any manipulation of voter rights would be met with opposition from the organization.
Kumar Raja, president of the Ranchi Metropolitan Congress, emphasized that all political parties have the right to express dissent and protest in a democracy. He insisted that questions regarding the functioning of democratic institutions should be addressed through transparency and constitutional processes. A significant police presence was deployed around the Election Commission office to maintain security during the protest.
