New Delhi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : In New Delhi, members of the opposition alliance staged a protest march against the Election Commission of India and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on October 6. During the demonstration, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was briefly detained by police before being released. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, was seen climbing a police barricade while waving the national flag.
Protesters accused the Election Commission of irregularities in the voter list and called for the removal of Gyanesh Kumar. Leaders from the opposition alliance raised concerns about the commission’s operations, demanding accountability.
Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav launched a fierce attack on the Election Commission, stating, “The Election Commission is lying. It is dishonest and a bandit of democracy. The Chief Election Commissioner is not even willing to listen to his fellow commissioners. If there are allegations against the commission, why is the BJP defending it?”
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized that the movement is tied to the rights of the youth, women, farmers, and the poor. He warned that the freedoms fought for by the people are now at risk. “The BJP is attempting to seize rights through deception to stay in power. They must resign immediately, or there will be chaos across the country,” he declared.
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari also made serious allegations against the Election Commission, claiming that the removal of 13 crore votes and the misuse of Form 6 warranted Gyanesh Kumar’s imprisonment rather than his position in the commission.
Responding to BJP MP Sambit Patra’s comment that “Lord Ganesha is helping the BJP,” Tiwari retorted that Kumar’s defense would lead to divine retribution that would prevent the BJP from ever regaining power.
Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram referenced a Supreme Court hearing regarding Form 6, criticizing the BJP for denying the Chief Justice’s statement that no changes to the form had been approved. “How can the BJP openly deny what the Chief Justice stated in open court?” he questioned.
Congress MP Rajiv Shukla reiterated demands for counting votes of the 13 crore individuals who were allegedly deceived, insisting that the Election Commission had committed serious wrongs and calling for the Chief Election Commissioner’s removal.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant outlined the alliance’s demands, which include the dismissal of Gyanesh Kumar, conducting elections via ballot paper, and reinstating names removed from the voter list during the SIR process.
