Congress Protests Against Election Commission in Mumbai, Vows to Continue Fight

Mumbai, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : In Mumbai, Congress staged a protest on September 29 against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at the Chaityabhumi site in Dadar. Party leaders and activists raised concerns regarding the electoral process and the Special Investigation Reports (SIR). They called for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and the cancellation of the SIR.

Congress leader Bhai Jagatap emphasized that Rahul Gandhi and the party have long voiced allegations of electoral fraud and vote theft. He pointed to irregularities during elections held under the Mahavikas Aghadi government, where reports suggested additional votes may have been added under the SIR. Instances of voters being shown in cramped rooms were also highlighted. Jagatap noted that these issues had previously been raised by the party, and now they are determined to continue this fight.

Recent developments have reinforced Congress’s claims, according to Jagatap. He stated that the youth, farmers, women, and ordinary citizens are speaking out to protect their rights, as well as the Constitution and democracy. He accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the central government of serious vote theft allegations. Jagatap demanded action against Kumar, including imprisonment.

He asserted that this isn’t just a Congress issue but a matter concerning the rights of every voter. Uddhav Thackeray stands with them in this struggle. Jagatap referenced the preamble of the Constitution, indicating that Congress will emphasize constitutional values to the public.

Congress leader Charan Singh Sapra described the protest as a manifestation of the people’s voice. He questioned the role of the Election Commission, alleging that the institution meant to safeguard democracy is undermining the democratic process under its leadership. He accused the Election Commission of betraying the public’s trust and reiterated calls for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

Sapra also raised concerns about the rules surrounding the Declaration Form added to Form-6, arguing that there should not be double standards in the voter registration process. He claimed that during the SIR, approximately 13.3 million names were removed from the voter list and called for their reinstatement.

Furthermore, Sapra noted that Maharashtra’s Chief Electoral Officer has written to the Central Election Commission regarding issues related to the SIR. During the protest, Congress leaders reiterated their demands for the cancellation of the SIR and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
