Amaravati, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : The Election Commission of India has announced an extension of the special intensive revision (SIR) deadlines in Andhra Pradesh and Meghalaya. In Andhra Pradesh, the deadline for addressing claims and objections has been pushed to October 10, 2026. The final voter list will now be published on October 16, 2026.
This decision was made during a meeting held at the Election Commission office in New Delhi. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. S.S. Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, participated in the discussions.
According to the revised schedule, Meghalaya’s final voter list will be released on October 26, 2026. Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Electoral Officer, Vivek Yadav, stated that the Election Commission had initiated the special revision of voter lists on July 1, 2026, based on the eligibility date. A draft of the voter list was published in all assembly constituencies on July 31, 2026.
Initially, the deadline for claims and objections was set for October 5, with the final voter list scheduled for publication on October 9. However, due to pending hearings related to no-mapping and logical discrepancies in some assembly constituencies, as well as unresolved applications from Forms 6, 7, and 8, the Commission decided to extend the deadline.
This extension aims to ensure that no eligible voter is inadvertently left out of the voter list. The original deadline for submitting claims and objections was August 20, 2026. Political parties and district election officials had requested an extension, especially given the low response from voters. The Commission had previously extended the deadline to September 10 for submissions and to October 5 for resolutions.
Now, with the latest adjustments, the Election Commission has reaffirmed the new deadlines of October 10 for claims and objections and October 16 for the publication of the final voter list in Andhra Pradesh.
