Ahmedabad, July 22: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his recent protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence. BJP leader Rohan Gupta accused Gandhi and the Congress party of attempting to exploit student issues for political gain. He stated that the opposition’s focus seems to be more on political advantage than on public interest.
Speaking about Rahul Gandhi’s protest, Rohan Gupta remarked, “This is an example of ‘vulture politics.’ Students have been protesting at Jantar Mantar for several days, yet neither Rahul Gandhi nor any senior Congress leaders were present during that time. It was only when Congress realized they could gain politically from the issue that Rahul Gandhi decided to join the protest.”
Gupta further stated, “The Congress party has a history of trying to take credit whenever a public issue arises. Even during parliamentary sessions, Congress has used various issues as political weapons.”
He emphasized, “When the reality of an issue comes to light, the truth becomes clear. The central government is serious about the future of students and is working sensitively on matters related to examination systems. The government aims to ensure that there is no compromise on students’ futures.”
Gupta challenged Congress, asking how long they would continue to use others’ issues for political advantage. According to him, the opposition should focus on solutions rather than merely making accusations.
He added, “The position of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha carries significant responsibility, and one expects dignified behavior from the person holding this position. Rahul Gandhi has, on several occasions, affected the dignity of this role with his behavior and statements in Parliament. If he genuinely cares about students’ interests, he should have engaged with them at Jantar Mantar. His attempts to take credit for the students’ movement will not resolve the issues at hand.”
Gupta concluded, “In a democracy, the role of the opposition is crucial, but it should be carried out with responsibility and decorum. Instead of politicizing issues related to student interests, all parties should work together to find solutions.”
