New Delhi, July 22: The political climate is heating up as opposition leaders call for government intervention regarding student issues, following Sonam Wangchuk‘s hunger strike. Several MPs visited Wangchuk in the hospital, urging him to end his protest. The controversy surrounding the NEET UG paper leak has also intensified political rhetoric.
Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) stated, “We met with Sonam Wangchuk in the hospital, along with MPs Vivek Tankha and Sagarika Ghosh. A letter signed by several MPs was handed to him, requesting that he end his hunger strike. Wangchuk’s life is crucial for the country, and considering his health, we made this appeal.”
Durai Vaiko, Principal Secretary of MDMK and MP, expressed support for the student movement, saying, “Sonam Wangchuk is a prominent face of this protest. CJP and its leader Abhijit Dipke are also key organizers. The main demands of the movement include the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, protection of Wangchuk’s constitutional right to peaceful protest, and government action on student issues.”
Independent MP Rajesh Ranjan, also known as Pappu Yadav, voiced his support for the students’ concerns. He remarked, “A better system requires individuals who advocate for values and justice. When millions of students take exams, and the number of available seats is limited, the government must reconsider its policies.”
Meanwhile, Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur Minister H.K. Patil criticized the central government regarding the NEET UG paper leak. He stated, “The paper leak has caused dissatisfaction among students. Instead of addressing their concerns, the government has presented this issue differently.”
Patil added, “Under the leadership of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, the party has protested in support of students. The central government must urgently address student issues and ensure transparency in the examination system.”
