
Bhopal, June 6: In Madhya Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and Rajneesh Agarwal submitted their nomination papers today, with several prominent party leaders in attendance.
The elections are being held for three Rajya Sabha seats in the state, with the BJP declaring two candidates. The Congress party has also announced its candidate for the elections.
On Saturday, Tarun Chugh and Rajneesh Agarwal, along with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, BJP State President Hemant Khandelwal, party in-charge Mahendra Singh, and regional organization secretary Ajay Jamwal, visited the BJP state office. They offered prayers and paid homage to the statues of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay and Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, former state president and MP Vishnudatt Sharma, several cabinet ministers from the Madhya Pradesh government, along with party officials and workers. After the ceremony, both candidates proceeded directly to the assembly to complete the nomination process.
According to the assembly’s mathematical calculations, the BJP is likely to secure two seats, while the Congress may gain one. The state has 230 assembly members, with 228 eligible to vote. A candidate needs the support of 58 MLAs to win. The BJP currently holds 164 seats, while the Congress has 64. The BJP is also eyeing the third seat, with Urban Administration Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and former Family Minister Bhupendra Singh stating that the party could win it if directed by the high command.
