Ahmedabad, July 22: In a bid to strengthen security measures at major airports across the country, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Aviation Security Group (ASG) successfully conducted the annual multi-agency bomb threat mock exercise at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
The primary aim of this exercise was to test the preparedness and coordination among security forces and various agencies in the event of a bomb threat.
During the mock drill, a scenario was created where a suspicious bag filled with explosives was detected during X-BIS screening. Following this, the CISF and other relevant agencies promptly secured the entire area in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Passengers were safely evacuated, the threat was assessed, and the suspicious IED was neutralized using modern bomb disposal equipment.
At the conclusion of the exercise, a review meeting was held under the chairmanship of the DIG/CASO. This meeting provided a detailed evaluation of the preparedness of all agencies, their coordination, and the emergency response system, aiming to enhance effectiveness in dealing with any real-life situations in the future.
It is noteworthy that the annual multi-agency bomb threat mock exercise is a mandatory and high-level security drill conducted at all major airports in India, primarily led by the CISF’s Aviation Security Group. This exercise simulates a bomb threat scenario to assess how swiftly and effectively security agencies respond to protect public infrastructure.
The main objectives of this exercise include evaluating the operational readiness of security forces, establishing better coordination among various central, state, and private agencies, and assessing the effectiveness of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Additionally, it aims to identify potential communication gaps and delays in action to further strengthen security measures.
