Ranchi, July 22: Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s youth wing (BJYM) attempted to besiege the Congress office in Ranchi on Wednesday, following a protest at the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) headquarters. Police intervened before the protesters could reach the main entrance, leading to a scuffle between the demonstrators and law enforcement, resulting in a tense standoff outside the Congress office.
BJP activists marched towards the Congress office on Shradhanand Road, chanting slogans against the state government and Congress leadership. To prevent their advance, police had set up barricades on the road. The protesters attempted to break through these barriers to enter the office premises but were halted by police before reaching the main gate. This led to a prolonged struggle and pushing between the two sides.
As BJP supporters shouted slogans against Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders, hundreds of Congress members inside the building responded with chants against BJP central leaders and the central government. In response to the escalating situation, additional police forces were deployed around the Congress office and its vicinity. Several senior police officials were present to maintain law and order, tightening security measures.
Police made efforts to prevent both parties from confronting each other; however, chanting continued for some time. Earlier in the day, BJYM workers had gathered at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium. Their procession then moved to encircle the JPSC headquarters. During the protest, activists attempted to breach police barricades to reach the commission’s main gate. Police intervened again, resulting in further pushing and tension. BJP leaders and protesters alleged serious irregularities in the results and cutoff process of the 14th JPSC Preliminary Examination.
They claimed that questions had been raised about the transparency of recruitment processes in the state, jeopardizing the future of the youth. They reiterated their demands for a fair investigation into the examination process, action against those responsible, and justice for the candidates. Outside the Congress office, BJP leaders accused the state government and Congress of attempting to distract the public from issues like recruitment scams and corruption.
Conversely, Congress leaders dismissed the BJP’s protest as political theatrics, asserting that an investigation was already underway and that the opposition was trying to exploit the situation for political gain. As of the time of this report, the situation outside the Congress office remained tense but under control. According to police officials, security measures had been heightened throughout the area, with additional forces deployed to prevent any untoward incidents.
