Beijing, July 22: On July 20, the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain marked the successful conclusion of the 38-day “FIFA World Cup Cinema Live Broadcast Program – 2026.”
Hosted by China Media Group and co-organized by China Film Group Corporation, this event was notable for being the first time the World Cup was broadcast live in Chinese cinemas. Utilizing the reservation screening system from China Film Group, theaters transformed their audiovisual spaces into vibrant viewing platforms. This initiative not only expanded offline cultural consumption options for the public but also provided theaters with a practical way to diversify their non-film content offerings and revitalize their time slot resources.
The live broadcast program included participation from 266 cities across 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in China, with over 1,400 theaters involved. The atmosphere in many cities during the matches was incredibly enthusiastic. Weekend matches, as well as crucial games like the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals, were particularly popular among fans, leading to sold-out tickets in numerous theaters.
