Kolkata, August 20: Kunal Ghosh, a legislator from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following violent clashes among students at Jadavpur University. He alleged that BJP members engaged in hooliganism on campus and questioned the police’s response, noting that no arrests were made. Ghosh also commented on the Congress’s proposal regarding ‘Vande Mataram‘ and shared his thoughts on Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary.
Ghosh condemned the BJP’s actions at Jadavpur University, stating that the police should have taken action against those involved. He mentioned that there are students at the university whose behavior is unacceptable, and the party does not support such individuals. The clash resulted in the death of one student and an attack on TMC leader Babul Supriyo, which Ghosh strongly denounced.
He claimed that BJP goons received support from the police, emphasizing that Jadavpur University ranks among the top ten institutions in the state. This incident symbolizes the lawlessness prevailing in the region.
The violent altercation occurred on Thursday morning between the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and leftist student organizations, with both sides accusing each other of bringing outsiders onto the campus.
Regarding ‘Vande Mataram,’ Ghosh stated during a media interaction, “This is a topic for historians to ponder. Look at ‘Jana Gana Mana’; we do not sing the entire song, only the first stanza. Similarly, regarding ‘Vande Mataram,’ some believe it should be sung in full, while others prefer just the first two stanzas. Historians can provide better insights on this.”
Meanwhile, TMC legislator Kunal Ghosh expressed, “On Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary, we pay our full respect and tribute. If he were alive today, the politics of the entire country and West Bengal would be more positive.”
