Nanded, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his sorrow over the tragic road accident in Nanded, Maharashtra, which resulted in the deaths of eight individuals. He announced financial assistance for the affected families and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) shared on social media that families of the deceased will receive a compensation of ₹2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). Additionally, those injured in the accident will be provided with ₹50,000.
In his statement, Modi said, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the accident in Nanded, Maharashtra. My condolences are with the grieving families during this difficult time. I wish for the quick recovery of the injured.”
The incident occurred on Thursday evening when a truck collided violently with a Tata Magic van on the Nanded-Bhoker highway near the village of Wakad in the Sitakhandi area. At least eight passengers lost their lives, and several others sustained serious injuries, prompting their hospitalization.
Witnesses reported that the van, which was traveling from Nanded to Bhoker, collided head-on with the truck. The impact was so severe that the van was completely mangled and ended up off the road. The front of the truck was also significantly damaged.
There were a total of 12 people in the van at the time of the crash. The scene was chaotic, with local residents and passersby assisting police in rescuing the injured and transporting them to the hospital. Authorities have taken the bodies for post-mortem examinations and are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
