VHP Criticizes Congress for Decision on Vande Mataram Lyrics

New Delhi, August 20: The political landscape has heated up following the Congress Working Committee’s decision to sing only two verses of “Vande Mataram.” Vinod Bansal, the national spokesperson for Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), linked this decision to the “thinking of the Muslim League” from 1937. He stated that the removal of the remaining verses, which contain words like temple, religion, and Durga, indicates Congress’s discomfort with Indian culture and values.

Bansal expressed concern over Congress’s apparent pain regarding these terms, suggesting that this opposition is not new. He criticized the party for being influenced by foreign interests and accused it of appeasement policies. “Congress should reflect internally and not mislead the people of the country. This has now taken a legal form. Anyone who insults Vande Mataram, whether Congress members or others, must face imprisonment,” he asserted.

Freedom fighter Praveen Chhabra remarked, “Today, ‘Vande Mataram’ has become a question for the common people and every citizen. It is a great national and revolutionary song that inspired many. The song has been a powerful force throughout the country, leading to the sacrifice of countless martyrs.”

In response to the ongoing controversy within the Congress party, Soumitra Chatterjee, a BJP legislator and descendant of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, stated, “In a circus, there are clowns who attract attention. While serious matters are unfolding in the country, they are performing this drama. If someone puts on a show, what can we do? This is India, but the law is on our side.”

He also mentioned, “We will take legal action. I need to discuss this with my family and my party. After that, we will proceed legally, but any legal steps will be taken by the family—we want that. First and foremost, we will talk to the party.”

Chatterjee added, “Congress is a party; whatever they do in the CWC, what does it matter to us? But if they wish to remain in India, they must operate within the framework of Indian law.”

Sufi Kashish Warsi, National President of the Indian Sufi Foundation, commented on the incident at the Congress headquarters during Independence Day, saying, “Political individuals do nothing without politics. They act out of greed for vote banks. If Sonia Gandhi has acted against the laws of the country, it is wrong, and I condemn it.”

He further stated that every nationalist should adhere to the law once it is passed. If they do not comply, their associates are responsible. “If Sonia has done something against the laws of the country, the government is there to decide what actions should be taken,” he concluded.
