Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh Criticizes TMC Amid Election Symbol Dispute

Kolkata, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Kolkata’s Panchayati and Rural Development Minister, Dilip Ghosh, launched a fierce attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) during a press conference on Saturday. His comments come as the Election Commission of India (ECI) hears claims from two rival factions within the party regarding its election symbol.

Ghosh, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserted that the TMC’s existence should come to an end, citing the party’s detrimental impact on the people of West Bengal during its time in power. He stated, “It seems that no one has received the party’s election symbol. We do not want this party to have any foothold in West Bengal or anywhere else. Its existence should cease. This party has wreaked havoc in Bengal and has corrupted the state’s politics.”

The former president of the West Bengal BJP also questioned the current state of the TMC, claiming that the party is in a state of confusion and disorder. He referenced comments made by TMC leader Kunal Ghosh, suggesting that for many within the party, the name TMC is synonymous with former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Ghosh remarked, “As long as Mamata Banerjee is around, people may think that a party named TMC still exists. However, the rebel faction now has the support of most of the party’s leaders and legislators. The organization is clearly in disarray.”

He reiterated Kunal Ghosh’s sentiment, explaining that TMC is often viewed as synonymous with Mamata Banerjee. Yet, he emphasized that a rival faction, backed by a majority of the legislators, indicates the party’s chaotic condition.

These remarks surfaced on a day when the ECI was engaged in discussions in New Delhi with both rival factions of the TMC regarding their claims over the party’s election symbol. The rebel faction, led by Ritabrata Banerjee, was heard first, followed by the original faction headed by Mamata Banerjee.

It is noteworthy that the TMC has faced significant internal division since the change of government in West Bengal, with most of its legislators aligning with Ritabrata Banerjee’s faction, while a smaller group remains loyal to Mamata Banerjee.
