Controversy Erupts Over Demolition of Saharanpur Mosque, Leaders Call for Action

Bareilly, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : The demolition of the Saharanpur Courthouse Mosque has sparked significant controversy, with Maulana Shahabuddin, the national president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, voicing his concerns. He expressed hope that the High Court would rule in favor of the mosque’s reinstatement.

In a recent discussion, Maulana Shahabuddin criticized Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Salman Khurshid for their silence on the issue. He stated, “It is truly regrettable that they have not made any statements regarding the Saharanpur mosque case. Mosques and other places of worship are part of India’s democratic framework, reflecting our culture and heritage. Everyone should raise their voice on this matter. I congratulate my Hindu brothers in Saharanpur for speaking out; this is our brotherhood and shared legacy.”

He further detailed the mosque’s history, noting that it was established in 1910. The mosque was reportedly demolished hastily by the administration using bulldozers. This action has left many Muslims across the country disheartened and angry with the government and local administration. A legal case has been filed by the mosque management committee in court, and hearings are currently underway. Maulana Shahabuddin remains optimistic that the High Court will favor the mosque, allowing for its reconstruction at the same site.

On the topic of Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Seva Sankalp Yatra,’ Maulana Shahabuddin commended the initiative. “This is a positive step that deserves recognition. Government schemes should prioritize public welfare, and it is the government’s responsibility to work with the people’s interests in mind. I support the Seva Sankalp Yatra,” he stated.

Chandrashekhar Azad, leader of the Azad Samaj Party, weighed in on the mosque demolition, suggesting that the speed of the action appeared politically motivated. “We also wanted the site sealed, but the order was for eviction, not destruction. The demolition seems to have been carried out to incite opposition and create a political atmosphere. The people of Saharanpur have shown wisdom, and we thank them,” he remarked.
