New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Chinese President Xi Jinping, attending the 18th BRICS Summit, expressed China’s readiness to play a significant role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East and Gulf regions. Speaking in New Delhi, Xi emphasized the importance of collaboration with other BRICS nations to achieve these goals.
According to Xinhua, Xi acknowledged the severe impact of ongoing conflicts on the region’s populace and highlighted the negative implications for the international community as a whole. This marks Xi’s first visit to India in seven years, following the Galwan clash.
The statements made during the summit hold considerable significance. Day one of the conference was marked by a notable achievement, as all member countries agreed to issue a joint statement. Discussions reportedly extended until 4 a.m. as negotiators worked through various contentious issues.
Despite existing differences among member nations on several key topics, India showcased effective diplomacy, facilitating a resolution that allowed for a unified statement. This agreement is particularly important given that Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, while part of the BRICS platform, have diverging views on many West Asian matters.
Sources indicated that coordinating a joint statement amid ongoing conflicts and rising tensions in West Asia presented a significant diplomatic challenge for India. Through its efforts, India ensured that these differences did not overshadow the BRICS discussions, leading to consensus among all participating countries.
