Dehradun, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Harish Rawat, a senior leader of the Congress party and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, has dismissed rumors regarding his resignation from the party’s leadership roles. He clarified that his commitment to Congress remains unwavering, and he has only suggested stepping down from his positions.
In a post on X, Rawat stated, “Certain media outlets are reporting that I have resigned from the Congress party. My membership in the Congress is ingrained in my very being. Everything that I am is built on the foundation of this party, and it will accompany me even in the afterlife.”
The former Chief Minister elaborated, “If the recent theatrics involving the ED in Dehradun impact our narrative against corruption, I would like to resign from my positions within the party (as a member of the state executive and the AICC working committee).”
Rawat’s post also touched upon the upcoming elections in Uttarakhand, humorously noting that he would only know the election dates when the CBI came knocking at his door. He remarked, “If they haven’t arrived yet, it likely means elections will occur in March-April next year. However, this time they have chosen to create a narrative by visiting a colleague’s house instead of mine. The Congress party and its workers are united in the fight against corruption, with Rahul Gandhi raising his voice against the corruption in the education system through the national ‘Students’ Echo’ campaign.”
In closing, Rawat emphasized, “At this critical juncture, I do not wish for my actions to weaken the party’s struggle. Therefore, after reflecting on this with my deities, I have decided to step down from my positions within the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee and the national Congress working committee, as I do not hold any government position.”
