Guwahati, June 23: Assam has launched the ‘E-Zero FIR’ initiative, making it one of the first states in India to implement an automated system to tackle cyber fraud. This system converts complaints of cyber financial crimes registered through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and the 1930 cyber helpline into formal FIRs.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the initiative, emphasizing its aim to ensure swift police action against cyber fraud, facilitate easy registration of cases, and expedite the recovery of lost funds.
Sarma stated that this move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of creating a ‘Cyber Safe India’ and strengthening the country’s response to the growing threat of online financial crimes.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Chief Minister confirmed that Assam has officially initiated the E-Zero FIR system, under which cyber financial crimes reported to the NRC or 1930 will automatically be converted into FIRs.
According to the Chief Minister, this new system will allow for jurisdiction-free and hassle-free registration of cyber crime cases, eliminating delays caused by procedural requirements and regional boundaries.
He added that the system is designed to expedite police action and improve the chances of recovering funds before they are withdrawn through multiple accounts.
Sarma also mentioned that cases of cyber financial fraud involving amounts exceeding ₹1 lakh will automatically be converted into Zero FIRs, enabling prompt investigation and action regardless of the location of the initial complaint.
The Zero FIR system permits police to register cases without regard to regional jurisdiction, after which the case can be transferred to the appropriate police station for investigation.
