Noida, July 24: The Gautam Buddh Nagar police have made significant strides in combating vehicle thefts by dismantling an inter-state motorcycle theft gang operating in the Sector-126 area.
Based on manual intelligence and confidential information, police apprehended three notorious gang members. During the operation, authorities recovered nine stolen motorcycles, one scooter, an illegal .315 bore firearm, and a live cartridge from the suspects’ possession.
On July 23, a police team from Sector-126 set up a blockade near Gadhi Shahpur Cut in Sector-131, leading to the arrest of Vikas Kumar, Rohit, and Kuldeep. Interrogation revealed that the trio were part of an organized inter-state vehicle theft gang that had been active in stealing two-wheelers across the Delhi-NCR region for an extended period.
Investigations disclosed that the suspects would scout locations such as malls, hospitals, metro stations, markets, and residential areas to identify parked vehicles. They would then steal the vehicles and hide them in secluded spots. To evade police detection, they would grind off the engine and chassis numbers, making identification impossible. The stolen vehicles were later sold at low prices for financial gain.
Following the suspects’ lead, police recovered the stolen motorcycles and scooter from dense bushes in the Yamuna floodplain in Sector-131. The gang leader, Vikas Kumar, was found in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition. During questioning, the suspects admitted to stealing several two-wheelers in the Delhi and Noida areas. Vikas Kumar is originally from Bulandshahr but was residing in Khoda Colony, Ghaziabad. Rohit also hails from Bulandshahr and currently lives in Salarpur, Noida, while Kuldeep is another Bulandshahr native.
The police investigation revealed that all three suspects have criminal records. Vikas has two prior cases registered under the Arms Act. Rohit faces multiple charges, including robbery, theft, and possession of stolen goods, while Kuldeep has also been implicated in theft and burglary cases. The recovered vehicles included several Hero Splendor motorcycles, a TVS Jupiter scooter, and a Bajaj CT-100, with some having ground-off engine and chassis numbers. Several of these vehicles were already linked to previous theft cases in various police stations in Delhi and Noida.
The police have registered cases against the suspects under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act at the Sector-126 police station. Authorities are now on the lookout for other gang members, individuals involved in the buying and selling of stolen vehicles, and other criminals connected to this network.
