Prime Minister Modi Meets Padma Bhushan Awardee Mammootty and Family

New Delhi, June 23: President Droupadi Murmu awarded the Padma Awards 2026 at the second Civilian Honors Ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday. Prime Minister Modi attended the event and took the opportunity to meet the renowned Malayalam actor Mammootty and his family.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared, “I participated in the second Civilian Honors Ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, where the Padma Awards were presented. These awards honor exceptional service and dedication across various fields. Each awardee exemplifies our commitment to society, inspiring countless citizens and reminding us all of the power of hard work and service.”

Additionally, Prime Minister Modi shared photos of his meeting with Mammootty’s family on Facebook, stating, “After the Padma Awards ceremony, I had the pleasure of meeting actor Mammootty and his family.”

Notably, President Droupadi Murmu honored the legendary Malayalam actor Mammootty with the Padma Bhushan for his distinguished contributions to the arts.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the award recipients, posting on ‘X’, “Heartfelt congratulations to all the distinguished individuals receiving Padma Awards today from the President.”

He noted that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the Padma Awards have been redefined to honor individuals making a real impact on society through selfless service. These awards now recognize unsung heroes and strengthen participatory democracy by inspiring citizens to engage in change. “My best wishes to all,” he added.

During the ceremony, President Murmu also posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan to former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren, with his wife, Rupi Soren, receiving the honor. Tennis legend Vijay Amritraj and singer Alka Yagnik were also honored with the Padma Bhushan.

Furthermore, P. Narayanan and retired Justice K.T. Thomas received the Padma Vibhushan for literature, education, and public service. Other Padma Bhushan recipients included S.K.M. Mailanandan, Mammootty, Vellapally Natesan, and Dattatreyaudu Nori.
