New Delhi, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : Home Minister Amit Shah announced a significant achievement following the seizure of 526 kilograms of drugs by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in the Arabian Sea. He stated that the Modi government is fully committed to protecting youth from the dangers of drugs.
In a recent post, Shah revealed that a joint operation involving the Gujarat ATS, the Indian Coast Guard, and central intelligence agencies led to the confiscation of methamphetamine and heroin from an Iranian vessel. This operation took place in India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), located 160 nautical miles northwest of Lakshadweep and 490 nautical miles southwest of Mumbai.
Shah noted that five Pakistani nationals were arrested in connection with the case, and investigations are ongoing to identify the broader network and drug users involved. He praised the exemplary coordination and cooperation among the agencies, highlighting that the operation lasted for 16 days and resulted in the seizure of the Iranian vessel.
According to the Indian Coast Guard, the operation was based on intelligence gathered by the ATS Gujarat and central intelligence agencies. The Coast Guard units successfully intercepted a suspicious Iranian boat west of Lakshadweep, identifying it, tracking it, and swiftly boarding it to dismantle a large international drug trafficking network.
The operation yielded over 526 kilograms of high-quality heroin and methamphetamine, valued at more than ₹3,000 crore. The five Pakistani crew members aboard the seized vessel have been brought to Mumbai for further investigation and legal action by multiple agencies.
The Indian Coast Guard emphasized its unwavering commitment to securing the nation’s maritime borders, combating drug trafficking, and addressing international organized crime. This operation is seen as a crucial step towards achieving the goal of a “drug-free India.”
