Opposition Leaders Unite Against Election Commission, Demand Resignation of Chief Election Commissioner

New Delhi, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : Leaders from the India Bloc launched a strong attack on the Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar during a joint press conference in New Delhi on Wednesday. They accused the CEC of overseeing alleged “vote theft” and election fraud, calling for his resignation and pledging to fight these issues collectively.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stated that the meeting lasted approximately three and a half hours, during which all leaders shared their views. He emphasized that the coalition agreed to unite and strengthen their efforts against these allegations. Notable leaders, including Uddhav Thackeray and Hemant Soren, participated in the meeting via online platforms.

Kharge announced that from October 2 to October 8, India Bloc members would stage protests outside district magistrate (DM) offices. Furthermore, on October 6, opposition MPs plan to march to the Election Commission. He revealed that the leaders would seek an appointment with the President in the second week of October to discuss the alleged takeover of institutions.

In addition, Kharge mentioned that the India Bloc would organize five major rallies in October and November, with details to be finalized soon. A significant rally is scheduled for November 1 in Delhi. He noted that the issues raised by Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee regarding “vote theft” are increasingly being acknowledged by the public.

Kharge criticized the Election Commission, alleging that some members act merely as “puppets,” manipulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. He reiterated that the opposition would stand united in this struggle.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also launched a sharp critique against the Election Commission, asserting that the India Bloc is united in its fight against this “major scam” of alleged vote theft. She called for the immediate resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of involvement in electoral fraud.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi stressed the commitment of all India Bloc leaders to hold accountable those they believe have harmed Indian democracy. He asserted that the position or seniority of individuals is irrelevant, as Indian democracy transcends any single person.

Gandhi noted that the meeting revealed a growing sentiment among the opposition that they have succeeded in raising public awareness about alleged electoral fraud. He pointed out that especially among the youth, there is an increasing belief that the current state of affairs is unjust and must be addressed.
