Major Drug and Arms Trafficking Network Disrupted in Amritsar, Five Arrested

Amritsar, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : The Amritsar Commissionerate police achieved a significant breakthrough in their efforts to make Punjab a drug-free and safe region. They arrested five suspects involved in three major networks responsible for drug trafficking and the supply of illegal weapons.

According to a post on the official social media account of the Punjab Police Director General, authorities seized 13 pistols, 3.267 kilograms of heroin, and 22 live cartridges from the suspects. The operation was conducted based on intelligence information, leading to raids at various locations where the suspects were apprehended.

Initial investigations revealed that the arrested individuals had been actively involved in the supply of illegal arms and narcotics for an extended period. These networks were not only operating within Punjab but also had connections across the border. Police suspect that handlers based abroad are linked to this entire racket, which facilitated the shipment of heroin and weapons into Punjab using drones and other methods.

Separate FIRs have been registered at the D-Division and Cheherhta police stations in Amritsar regarding this case. The police are now examining both backward and forward linkages to identify other individuals involved in the network. Interrogations of the suspects are ongoing, along with an investigation into their mobile phones and other documents.

Previously, rural police in Amritsar had also dismantled a similar network, arresting three suspects and recovering 10 kilograms of heroin, two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and ten live cartridges. Investigations revealed that those suspects were also in contact with traffickers based abroad and were supplying arms and drugs within the state. An FIR was registered in that case at the Garhinda police station.

Punjab police officials stated that they are committed to an ongoing campaign against drug and arms trafficking in the state. They reaffirmed their determination to completely eradicate these networks and their resolve to make Punjab a safe and drug-free state.
