Ahmedabad, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) have successfully thwarted a significant drug trafficking attempt in the Arabian Sea. On September 30, authorities announced the seizure of 526 kilograms of high-quality narcotics, valued at over ₹3,000 crores in the international market.
In a statement, the ICG revealed that their swift and decisive action, in collaboration with the ATS, targeted a major narcotics smuggling operation west of Lakshadweep. This operation aimed to disrupt key nodes in an international narco-terrorism network.
Acting on credible intelligence, the ICG monitored a suspicious Iranian vessel from both sea and air. On September 25, they intercepted the boat, conducted a search, and discovered the illicit cargo.
Officials confirmed that the operation led to the confiscation of approximately 526 kilograms of banned substances, including heroin and methamphetamine. Additionally, the five Pakistani nationals operating the vessel were promptly apprehended.
The seized boat, its crew, and the confiscated drugs have been securely transported to Mumbai for joint interrogation and legal proceedings involving multiple agencies.
The ICG emphasized that this operation underscores their strong maritime presence, rigorous surveillance, and commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against illegal activities in India’s coastal regions. They stated, “By undermining the financial strength of foreign gangs and preventing toxic synthetic substances from reaching the mainland, this mission reinforces the central government’s vision for a drug-free India.” The ICG remains dedicated to safeguarding the nation’s maritime borders and protecting the youth from addiction.
