Ahmedabad, August 3: Ahmedabad police have successfully solved eight previously unresolved theft and vehicle theft cases after a two-day investigation. This operation involved reviewing footage from over 600 CCTV cameras, leading to the arrest of two alleged members of the infamous “Chikhli Ghar” gang and the recovery of stolen property valued at ₹20.30 lakh.
The investigation commenced on July 29, following the registration of a theft case at the Ramol police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Under the guidance of senior officials from Ahmedabad city police, teams were formed to identify the suspects. Police Inspector V.D. Mori and Senior Police Inspector M.R. Chaudhary, along with the Ramol police surveillance team, the Zone-8 Local Crime Branch (LCB), and the Vatva GIDC police station monitoring team, analyzed CCTV footage from the crime scene and potential escape routes.
Investigators examined over 600 camera recordings, utilizing technical data, human sources, and assistance from Trinetra Gandhinagar to identify the culprits.
Based on specific information obtained during the investigation, a police team traveled to Anand district and arrested 31-year-old Ajay Singh, also known as Illo Sardar, a resident of Navi Nagri in Kambhat taluka.
During interrogation, police revealed that he confessed to committing the theft in Ramol along with 29-year-old Arjun Banjara, a resident of Nadiad taluka in Kheda district, and Sher Singh, also known as Sheru Sardar, from Kambhat.
According to police, all three were involved in multiple burglary incidents across various parts of Ahmedabad. Arjun Banjara was later apprehended in Surat, while Sher Singh remains at large.
Authorities recovered 18 tolas of stolen gold worth ₹18 lakh, ₹2 lakh in cash, a stolen motorcycle valued at ₹30,000, and a digital video recorder (DVR), bringing the total value of recovered property to ₹20.30 lakh.
The Ramol police reported that these arrests have unveiled eight previously unsolved cases, including three registered at the Ramol police station, three at the Vatva GIDC police station, and two at the Amaraiwadi police station.
These cases are linked to burglary, theft, and related offenses under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Police records also indicate that the accused have prior criminal cases filed against them in several districts of Gujarat. Ajay Singh, also known as Illo Sardar, has nine old cases registered against him in Anand, Kheda, Surendranagar, and Mahisagar districts, including theft, robbery, gambling, and other crimes.
Arjun Banjara has 14 old cases registered against him in districts such as Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, and Amreli, while the wanted suspect Sher Singh is implicated in three old cases. Further investigations are ongoing.
