Islamabad, August 2: A suicide bombing occurred on Sunday at the Kabal police station in Swat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. According to local media reports, the attack resulted in the deaths of seven individuals and left 18 others injured.
District Police Officer (DPO) Umar Gandapur stated, “Initial reports indicate that seven people have died and 18 are injured. Our police are fully alert and prepared to handle any situation. Security forces have cordoned off the area and an investigation is underway to gather evidence.”
Syed Fida Hussain, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Malakand, noted that police lines and several other sensitive government buildings are located near the police station.
Hussain told The Express Tribune, “Preliminary reports suggest that four police officers are critically injured, along with two civilians.”
The incident took place while hundreds were participating in a public demonstration near Kabal Chowk, close to the police station.
The injured were transported to the nearby Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital. Security personnel sealed off the area and initiated a search operation.
Earlier this week, an attack at the Khazana Banda checkpoint in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulted in the deaths of at least nine police officers and injuries to 28 others.
According to Dawn, Inspector General (IG) Zulfiqar Hamid stated that the attack was carried out by Fitna al-Khawarij, a term used for terrorists linked to the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Hamid reported that police officers responded to the attack, and additional forces were dispatched to the scene. He mentioned that in the ensuing gunfight, nine police officers, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were killed, while 28 others sustained injuries.
These incidents come amid a rising trend of attacks on security personnel maintaining law and order in Pakistan, particularly in border provinces like Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
