
Ahmedabad, April 15: The Crime Branch in Ahmedabad has seized 412 grams of methamphetamine (MD) valued at ₹12.36 lakh during a raid in the Ghee Kanta area. Two individuals were arrested in connection with this operation.
The suspects have been identified as Malaram Devasai (26) and Ashok Kumar Darji (35), both residents of Saraspur in Ahmedabad.
According to officials from the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, the raid was conducted based on specific intelligence gathered during patrols related to the upcoming elections. The operation took place near Navtad Pole, close to the Lakshmi Mata Temple.
Police reported that their team was patrolling to maintain law and order ahead of the elections when they received credible information about illegal drug activities in the area.
Officials stated, “Based on the specific information, a raid was conducted at the indicated location, where the accused were found in possession of a commercial quantity of methamphetamine without any permit.”
Devasai is originally from Maru Khera village in Jalore district, Rajasthan, while Darji hails from Tetoda village in Banaskantha district. The seized drugs weighed 412 grams and were valued at ₹12,36,000.
In addition, authorities recovered three mobile phones worth ₹20,000, ₹3,500 in cash, an empty zip bag, a plastic bag, a cloth carry bag, a newspaper, and a college bag. The total estimated value of the seized items is ₹12,59,500.
A case has been registered against both suspects and the supplier of the illegal goods under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the DCB police station.
Police added, “We have initiated efforts to identify the individual supplying methamphetamine and to investigate the entire network.”
On April 12, a similar operation led to the arrest of two more individuals in the Behra M pura area, where 52.410 grams of methamphetamine valued at ₹1,57,230 was seized.
Acting on specific information, officials raided an open field near Santosh Nagar Four Buildings and apprehended Hasmukh Sargara (27) and Manish Sargara (26), both residents of Santosh Nagar and originally from Barmer district, Rajasthan.
Police reported that the accused were found with the banned substance without any permit. During this operation, authorities also seized three mobile phones worth ₹15,000, ₹6,000 in cash, a scooter, a pocket scale, and several empty zip bags.
The total estimated value of the seized property in this case is ₹1,98,920. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and further legal action is underway.
