Bihar Police Uncovers International Cyber Fraud Ring, Four Arrested

Motihari, April 15: Bihar’s Motihari district has witnessed a significant breakthrough as police dismantled an international cyber fraud ring, resulting in the arrest of four individuals. The arrested cybercriminals reportedly earned a 10% commission on the total amount defrauded from victims.

On Wednesday, police officials revealed that they received a tip-off about a cybercriminal named Ankit Kumar, who was loitering near an ATM in Khatolwa village, Kalyanpur. Acting on this information, a police team apprehended him from the area.

During interrogation, Ankit disclosed details about a larger network, leading to the arrest of three accomplices. According to Santosh Kumar, the sub-divisional police officer of Chakia, the arrested individuals collaborated with cybercriminals from Pakistan. They used misleading advertisements on social media and instilled fear of fake legal actions to execute ‘digital arrests’ and extort money from unsuspecting victims.

The fraudsters transferred the illicit funds to Pakistani cyber operatives via CDM, retaining a 10% share for themselves. They also maintained connections with cybercriminals from other states and countries.

The arrested suspects include Ankit Kumar, Yuvraj Kumar from Kesariya, Mohammad from Gadhia, and Chunnu Kumar from Ghazoulia. Police are currently conducting further inquiries with them.

Authorities recovered seven passbooks from various banks, ten ATM cards, a laptop, and five mobile phones from the suspects. Additionally, two expensive bikes and a Pulsar motorcycle, purchased with the proceeds of crime, were seized by the police.
