Mumbai, April 15: The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Police has made a significant breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against drugs, arresting a peddler named Irfan Ali Ansari.
The suspect was apprehended in the Sakinaka area of Mumbai, where approximately 200 ecstasy (MDMA) pills were seized. The estimated value of the confiscated drugs is around ₹2.6 million.
According to police reports, two young men recently died from drug overdoses during a music show held at Nesco Grounds. Following this incident, the Mumbai Police intensified their crackdown on drugs and traffickers in the city. Investigations revealed that Irfan Ali Ansari was also present at the same music event, raising suspicions about his involvement in the case.
Police officials noted that Ansari has a prior criminal record. He was previously arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in 2021 for drug trafficking, serving nearly four years in prison before being released about a year ago.
During the arrest, police also recovered a mobile phone from Ansari, which contained contact numbers of several attendees from the music party. Authorities are now investigating whether Ansari supplied drugs at the event, whom he sold them to, and where he obtained the narcotics.
The accused has been presented in court, where he was remanded to police custody until April 20. A thorough investigation is ongoing, and police hope this operation will unveil connections to other individuals involved in the drug network.
