New Delhi, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has emerged victorious in the 2026 Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) elections, winning three out of four available positions. Yash Dubas has been elected as President, Riya Chhawari as Secretary, and Lakshya Raj Singh as Joint Secretary. Meanwhile, independent candidate Deepanshu Shaukeen claimed the Vice President position. In contrast, the Congress-supported National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) failed to secure any seats.
Following the election results, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju congratulated the ABVP, interpreting their success as a reflection of political trends among the youth. He noted that students from various parts of the country study at Delhi University, positioning DUSU as a significant platform for student representation. Rijiju emphasized the importance of the ABVP’s victory, suggesting it serves as a response to the opposition’s campaigns aimed at youth and students.
He stated that the election outcomes demonstrate students’ ability to express their views and political preferences through voting. The NSUI’s inability to win any seats was highlighted as a political message for Congress.
BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi also extended congratulations to the ABVP, asserting that students cast their votes in favor of nationalism and the vision of a developed India. He criticized those attempting to suggest that the youth do not support these ideals, declaring the DUSU results a rebuttal to such claims.
Tripathi took a jab at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, arguing that as long as Gandhi remains in a prominent role within the party, Congress will continue to face similar electoral challenges. He accused Gandhi of being influenced by foreign agencies.
In a different perspective, Samajwadi Party MLA Ravidas Mehrotra noted that the Samajwadi Student Assembly participated in the DUSU elections for the first time, achieving commendable results. He raised concerns about the ban on student union elections in Uttar Pradesh, questioning why elections can be held in Delhi but not in UP universities. Mehrotra referenced his experiences with student union elections at Lucknow University, where such elections are currently suspended.
Former Union Minister and Vice Chairman of Gandhi Smriti, Vijay Goyal, congratulated the winning ABVP candidates. He remarked that he closely observed the DUSU elections and that the results challenged certain political claims related to youth engagement. Goyal mentioned the discourse surrounding Gen Z in student politics, asserting that it is inappropriate to directly correlate social media or political campaigns with student voter decisions.
