Lucknow, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Maharashtra’s Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi has voiced his support for former Vice President Hamid Ansari’s statement regarding the threats posed by Hindu extremists to the nation. His remarks came during a media interaction in Lucknow on September 20, 2026, where he also addressed the job claims made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the recent Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election results.
Azmi emphasized that Ansari, a highly educated individual and former Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, should be taken seriously for his views. He expressed agreement with Ansari’s concerns, underscoring the importance of acknowledging such statements.
The discussion also touched on the controversy surrounding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi‘s “Students’ Echo” program, where he mimicked Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Azmi responded to the outrage expressed by BJP leaders and workers, stating that the Indian Constitution grants every citizen the right to express their opinions.
Referencing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Azmi asserted that every individual, regardless of their background, has the right to voice dissent against those in power. He accused the BJP of attempting to silence the opposition and stressed the need for tolerance in political discourse, advocating for freedom of speech within legal boundaries.
Furthermore, Azmi criticized the Yogi Adityanath government’s claims regarding employment and job creation, suggesting that the Chief Minister appears anxious as his time in office dwindles. He raised concerns about rising inflation and law and order in the state, alleging that communal tensions are being exacerbated under the guise of religion, negatively impacting the social fabric.
He also highlighted a recent theft of donations linked to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, claiming it has instilled fear among devotees, leading to a decline in visitors to the holy site.
