New Delhi, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant victory for independent candidate Deepanshu Shaukeen, the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elected him as vice president. Following his win, Deepanshu expressed gratitude to his supporters and emphasized his commitment to seeking justice for the victims of the Saty Niketan incident.
Deepanshu stated, “I am thrilled that the students of Delhi University have placed their trust in me. I will fight for their rights. I will demand justice for the students who lost their lives in the Saty Niketan incident. Additionally, I will advocate for better hostel facilities for students and work to address the corruption within the university system. This struggle was for these students.”
The DUSU vice president election saw a total of 60,854 votes cast, with Deepanshu securing 30,615 votes. His closest competitors included Ishu Maurya with 16,910 votes, Veer Chatarath with 4,313 votes, and Aranya Singh Rathore with 2,274 votes.
In other key DUSU positions, candidates from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) emerged victorious. Yash Dabas won the presidency, Riya Chhabra claimed the secretary position, and Lakshyraj Singh was elected as joint secretary.
The presidential election recorded 60,845 votes, with ABVP’s Yash Dabas receiving 24,576 votes, while NSUI’s Vijay Shankar Meena followed closely with 22,523 votes. Ananya Ratudi garnered 5,377 votes, and 4,310 students opted for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
For the joint secretary position, 60,825 votes were cast, with ABVP’s Lakshyraj Singh winning 16,615 votes. Special Yadav received 15,778 votes, NSUI’s Gopal Chaudhary got 15,206 votes, while NOTA received 7,389 votes.
In the secretary election, 60,776 votes were cast, with ABVP’s Riya Chhabra leading at 21,650 votes. NSUI’s Namrata Chaudhary followed with 14,869 votes, while Pankaj Kumar received 7,639 votes and NOTA had 7,884 votes.
