Lucknow, August 21: In a significant step towards strengthening ties, the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and Japan’s Yamanashi Prefectural Assembly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday. This agreement aims to enhance friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two legislative bodies. It paves the way for sharing legislative experiences, information, and methodologies, thereby fostering mutual understanding and trust.
Led by Yamanashi Prefectural Assembly President Hidenori Miyamoto, the delegation visited the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and met with Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana. During the meeting, both sides discussed legislative processes, the role of democratic institutions, and ways to deepen friendly relations. The delegation also learned about various arrangements within the assembly, including house proceedings, legislative processes, and operational styles.
Additionally, they observed the modernization efforts, the use of digital technology, and other arrangements in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. On this occasion, President Hidenori Miyamoto formally invited Satish Mahana to visit Yamanashi, expressing that the friendly exchange agreement would strengthen their relations and create new opportunities for sharing legislative experiences and methodologies.
Under the MoU, both assemblies will promote friendly relations through mutual visits, information exchange, and various activities. The goal is to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen trust. The agreement encourages collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including economy, tourism, agriculture, education, and human resource development. Both assemblies will strive to provide necessary support for the development of exchange programs and collaborative projects.
The MoU reflects both parties’ commitment to contributing to mutual development and prosperity. While it confirms the intent for friendly exchanges and cooperation, it does not create any legally binding obligations. This agreement will support the advancement of close and friendly relations between Uttar Pradesh and Yamanashi, in line with the spirit of the original agreement made on December 23, 2024. The MoU will take effect from the date it is signed by the presidents of both assemblies.
The delegation from Yamanashi Prefectural Assembly included President Hidenori Miyamoto, along with Ikko Yamada, Fumio Mizugishi, Masahito Ujuki, Noritoshi Mukayama, Rikio Ijima, Masanobu Ishihara, Masahito Nakamura, Yuki Usui, Masahito Kirihara, Daiki Watanabe, Rikizo Asakawa, Kenichi Shirakabe, and Osamu Ijima.
This agreement is seen as a crucial step in institutionalizing dialogue at the legislative level between Uttar Pradesh and Yamanashi, reinforcing new possibilities for cooperation in areas such as economy, tourism, agriculture, education, and human resource development.
